Monnas thump Klofies
Hoërskool Monument outscored Hoërskool Waterkloof seven tries to one in a cold and wet Premier Interschools clash in Krugersdorp on Saturday.
The home side were too strong, dominating all phases of play and starving the visitors of much needed possession.
Monument hooker and captain, PJ Botha, was first to score after a brilliant piece of individual play by midfielder, MJ Pelser but Luke Rossouw failed to add the extras.
The visitors struck back when centre, Ruan Allers, pounced on a loose ball to score against the base of the post. Duhann Guntre added the extras taking his side into a 7-5 lead.
Monnas regained control of the game and the lead when Scrum-half, Tinus Combrink, slithered over after good work by his forwards.
Klofies had an opportunity to level matters when the hosts were pinned for dangerous play. Guntre failed to convert in difficult kicking conditions.
Jonathan Rabie was next to cross the whitewash. The Monument winger showed tremendous pace to outstrip the defence and dot down in the corner taking the half-time score to 15-7.
The home side were first to score in the second half. Fly-half and man of the match, Rossouw, sliced through the defence to put Kevin le Roux away for a well worked try.
Number eight, PJ Jacobs then crashed over from a tap penalty after sustained pressure by the Monnas forwards.
PJ Botha powered over for his second with 12 minutes to play after a well-executed line-out drive. Jacobs took over the kicking duties and slotted his side’s only conversion.
Pelser then gathered a perfectly placed kick by replacement fly-half JP van Rensburg to record an impressive 37-7 victory.
