Bulls too good for Cheetahs
The Vodacom Bulls ran in six tries to the four of the Toyota Cheetahs to claim a 40 – 24 victory during their Super Rugby match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
The Bulls were leading 26 – 0 at half time thanks to a flood of tries by captain Pierre Spies then Dean Greyling, Zane Kirchner and Francois Hougaard.
The Cheetahs could not manage to score any points in the first 40 minutes after employing a strange game plan where they took quick taps from kickable penalties and tried to run everything from their own half.
The second half started with another two Bulls tries. Werner Kruger crashed over before Bjorn Basson scored a lovely individual try. The Bulls gathered a poor kick from the Cheetahs and quickly sent the ball wide where Basson stepped his way past numerous Cheetah defenders. Shortly after that the Cheetahs were reduced to 14 men with Andries Strauss getting his marching orders for pulling on Jacques Potgieter’s hair in a ruck.
The Cheetahs regrouped and launched a spirited come back, seeing them run in four unanswered tries. WP Nel crashed over the line twice with Willie le Roux showing some serious pace to dot down in the corner. Heinrich Brussow had the final say of the match when he received a ball on the wing and handed off Wynand Olivier before crashing over in the corner.
