Following conflicting reports in the media regarding a fire that broke out at Mr Price KINGS PARK this morning, The Sharks wish to advise the following:

At 06h30 today, Thursday 19 July, a suite on the north-west upper level of the stadium caught fire. Fortunately the local fire department were quick to respond to the emergency call and extinguished the fire ensuring that minimal damage was caused to the adjacent suites.

Brian van Zyl, Sharks CEO reported that, “The extent of the damage is minimal. The stadium and the rest of the suites and stands have not been affected. It will be business as usual for us as we are hosting the junior Sharks games here on Friday afternoon, when The Sharks U19 and U21s will play against the Free State.”

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and a full investigation will take place. As soon as additional information is gathered and the finding of the origin of the blaze is established, a further statement will be issued.

Van Zyl continued to say, “We appreciate all of the calls and concerns from the public and we wish to compliment the Durban Central Fire Department for responding within minutes and doing an excellent job in extinguishing the fire.”
