DHL Western Province U19 team to take on The Sharks U19
DHL Western Province Under-19 team to take on the Sharks 8 August 2012
Nazeem Adams, the DHL Western Province Under-19 coach, has announced his team to take on the Sharks at DHL Newlands on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 14h55).
The WP juniors suffered a dramatic 24-27 loss to the Platinum Leopards in Potchefstroom last weekend, but coach Adams was stilll upbeat ahead of this Saturday’s Sharks meeting.
“I guess we had a taste of our own medicine against the Leopards,” lamented Adams, referring to their 20-16 win over the Vodacom Blue Bulls the week before.
“Credit to the Leopards, they never stopped playing and took all their chances. But we will learn from that defeat and we obviously want to bounce back this weekend against the Sharks.
“The Sharks also had an unlucky loss last week – losing by one point to the Golden Lions – and they’re a strong side on attack, so we’re expecting a tough encounter.”
Adams has re-jigged his side a bit from last week, most notably on the bench, and also because of a few injuries picked up in Potchefstroom.
He said: “Loose forward Eital Bredenkamp is out with a knee injury, but we have Andreas Dercksen back this week. Andreas would’ve been part of our plans had he not been injured… so, as I always say, injuries work in roundabouts.
“The starting team has three changes, one of which is positional, and there’s four changes in all on the bench. Aside from injuries, the other changes were made with the long-term in mind.”
Centres Janco Gunther and Justin Geduld, who have been in great try-scoring form this year, will again combine at inside and outside centre, respectively, and their coach had nothing but praise for them.
“They’re both very skilful and a joy to watch,” said Adams. “The Sharks like running, but so do we through guys like Janco and Justin, and hopefully they can give us the edge there.”
