Springbok centre Frans Steyn went for x-rays on his injured right ankle on Monday evening and he has responded well to treatment.

Steyn injured his ankle during a warm-up drill on Monday morning and sat out training on Tuesday.

“The x-rays were clear and the swelling has settled nicely. We’re hoping to get him to do some training on Wednesday,” said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts.

Three more players did not train with the squad on Tuesday, and will be managed accordingly. They are Flip van der Merwe (lock, calf), Jacques Potgieter (flank, groin) and Lwazi Mvovo (wing, hamstring).

A final call on the availability of these four players for Saturday’s Test in The Castle Rugby Championship will be made later in the week.

The three other players who did not train on Monday were back on the field on Tuesday – Tendai Mtawarira (prop, stomach bug), Coenie Oosthuizen (prop, muscle stiffness) and Johan Goosen (flyhalf, bruised heel).

Note: Media are advised that the Springboks’ two media conferences on Wednesday and Friday have been moved to the Castello Room on the lower level of The Palazzo at Montecasino. The scheduled times remain unchanged.
