The DHL Stormers had two training sessions in Auckland on Tuesday, with backline coach Robbie Fleck confirming that experienced winger Bryan Habana was looking “fit and strong” ahead of his potential return to action.

Habana picked up a knee injury against the Chiefs on March 9, but he has made a remarkable return to fitness and was passed fully fit – before the squad left the country at the weekend – for Friday’s tour-opener against the Hurricanes.

“Bryan leads from the front on the training paddock and on the match-field. It’s fantastic having him back in the mix – he’s looking fit and he’s looking strong,” said Fleck from New Zealand on Tuesday evening (NZ time).

Speaking about Habana’s potential return to the Stormers starting XV, despite being out of action for over a month, Fleck added: “We’d have no qualms about starting with Bryan after his lay-off. He’s a Springbok… he’s one of the few players you could do that with. He’s done it before and we’ve done it before with him.”

The Stormers team, to take on the Hurricanes in Palmerston North, will be announced on Wednesday morning (SA time, 08h30).
