“I think now we’ve got a really good mix through the team from the front row, really good loose forwards who are all fit and firing at the moment, and also in the backs there’s some clear talent there and some pace that we’ve probably lacked for a few years.  The inclusion of the Sevens girls is fantastic they’re fit and strong and ready to go.

“I think across the park, we have developed a really good team and we want to use the ball like most New Zealand teams.”

Evans said they expected other nations to be very strong in France with increasing focus on the women’s game around the world.

“It’s a huge opportunity to represent your country.  The players are so excited about wearing the black ferns jersey and performing for their country, for the team.  The legacy of the team is huge and the results we have had over the years, so they are looking forward to stepping up to carrying that on,” he said.

“I think the teams at the moment that will challenge at this World Cup have probably grown from the last couple of World Cups – France, England – while I  think the Canadians are a lot stronger over the last couple of years.”
