SANZAR appoints Communications and Marketing Manager

Experienced South African sports and rugby communications consultant Anthony Mackaiser has been appointed Communications and Marketing Manager of the recently established SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia Rugby) organisation.

Mackaiser, a qualified journalist and former General Manager of Communications at South African Rugby, has 20 years’ experience in communications and public relations. SANZAR CEO Greg Peters announced that Mackaiser will take up his new role in March.
“I am delighted to welcome Anthony to the team. He has incredibly strong networks stretching across the Southern Hemisphere and throughout the international rugby world,” Peters said.

“This is an important role for our newly independent SANZAR organisation as Anthony will be responsible for establishing and developing our internal and external communication channels, brand management plans and in an age where online and social media are vital forms of communicating, he will establish our websites and drive our online communications,” he said.

Mackaiser was employed full-time by the South African Rugby Union between 1997 and 2005, and has since continued to be involved in South African Rugby as a consultant, most recently with the Springbok team. He has also consulted to several corporate clients.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me and with a host of projects to plan and implement around the new SANZAR entity, I am looking forward to the challenge,” Mackaiser said.

“SANZAR owns two of the biggest brands in world rugby and faces an exciting and challenging time over the coming months as it seeks to entrench the new Super Rugby format and identity. Expanding the Tri-Nations to include Argentina from 2012 will also require careful planning from a communications and marketing perspective,” he said.
