Bok Women’s Sevens to give everything in Amsterdam
Springbok Women’s Sevens coach Renfred Dazel said on Wednesday his team would give everything in the final Women’s World Series event in Amsterdam on Friday and Saturday as they look to finish the season on an positive note.
The tournament, which will bring down the curtain on the team’s debut season as a core team on the circuit, follows events in England, Canada, the USA, Brazil and Dubai.
Dazel made two changes to the team that featured in the England Sevens with Sunelle Barnard and Lorinda Brown replacing Rachelle Geldenhuys and Kirsten Conrad respectively.
Geldenhuys returned home on Tuesday due to a knee injury, while Conrad’s exclusion was due to a rotational switch.
“This is our last chance to leave a good impression on the 2014/2015 circuit and we would really like to finish the season on a positive note,” said Dazel. “I am pleased with the progress we made in the last two tournaments, and the victory against Brazil certainly bolstered our confidence going into this tournament, so hopefully we can build on that in Amsterdam.”
Despite this confidence Dazel had no doubt that his team would have to be at their best to do well in the pool stages, especially with clashes against the USA, New Zealand and Fiji lined up.
“All the teams in our pool are quality outfits who have delivered solid results during the season, so we are aware of the challenge ahead,” said the coach. “But that said we have shown a marked improvement in our standard of play on attack and defence and if we start our games well and maintain that standard throughout each match hopefully it will pay off. This tournament is not only important for us to finish the World Series on an encouraging note, we also see it as a fantastic opportunity to get a final run against some of the top teams in the Series before the 2015/2016 World Series Qualifier later in the year.”
