The Under-18 Coca-Cola Craven Week captains had a memorable evening on Tuesday as they were treated to a special dinner with Springbok Sevens captain Kyle Brown and Springbok and DHL Western Province players Juan de Jongh and Jaco Taute.

Brown, De Jongh and Taute encouraged the players at Coca-Cola’s annual captain’s dinner to enjoy the opportunity to represent their provinces at SA’s most prestigious school rugby tournament and inspired them to reach for their dreams in the sport regardless of the challenges they may face.

Taute stressed the importance of the players enjoying their rugby and to meet new friends, while De Jongh urged them to give their best at all times and to put in the hard yards at training in order to reach the top. He also advised them to learn from the hurdles they encounter as their careers progress, but never to give up.

Brown, meanwhile, stressed the importance of the camaraderie of the tournament and encouraged the players to build friendships with players within and outside of their teams.

“It is great that the captains have this opportunity to bond and become friends,” said Brown. “Some of these guys will play together in future and some may play against one other. Rugby is all about building character and friendships, and that is something that I try to do each and every day, and hopefully some of these captains will do the same.”

Apart from meeting some of their rugby heroes, the players also had the opportunity to ask them questions about their personal journeys to the top and the highs and lows in their careers before mingling with them.

The 20 Coca-Cola Craven Week teams will play their second round of matches on Wednesday and Thursday, with the final round being played on Saturday.
