SA Schools A lock and captain Héndre Stassen and flank Zain Davids have been called up to the SA Schools squad for the final round of the Under-18 International Series on Saturday after injuries forced changes to the team.

SA Schools utility forwards Cobus Wiese and Ruben van Heerden both suffered concussion in the clash against France in George on Tuesday and have been ruled out of the final match against England at City Park Stadium in Crawford, Cape Town, on Saturday.

KwaZulu-Natal No8 Marco Palvie, from Glenwood High, has been called up as a replacement to the SA Schools A team for their clash against Wales on Saturday.

“It is a big blow to lose Cobus and Ruben, but Héndre and Zain have performed well for the SA Schools A team and they are familiar with the structures, so it made sense to call them up as replacements,” said SA Schools coach Hein Kriek. “We have a tough game coming up against England, and these players faced England in George on Tuesday and know exactly what to expect in terms of their physicality and quality of play, which is a bonus. I have no doubt they will fit into the team with ease, especially since the SA Schools and SA Schools A teams have been based together for the last 10 days, so the players know one another well.”

Kriek and his SA Schools A counterpart Lance Sendin will announce their starting teams on Friday for the final round of the Under-18 International Series.

Under-18 International Series fixtures, Saturday 15 August, City Park Stadium:

11h00 – SA Schools A vs Wales U18
13h00 – France U18 vs Italy U18
15h00 – SA Schools vs England U18
