Confirmation of highly anticipated warm-up match between Gauteng neighbours at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Vodacom Bulls on Wednesday confirmed the highly rated Emirates Lions as their opponents for their annual Vodacom Super Rugby warm-up match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. This clash will take place on 13 February 2016 in Polokwane in what will be the fifth consecutive appearance of South Africa’s most successful Super Rugby team ever in Limpopo’s capital.

The Vodacom Bulls will take to the impressive 45 000-seater World Cup 2010 stadium as part of a partnership between the BlueBulls Company (BBC) and the City of Polokwane aiming to once again generatefunds for tertiary students in Polokwane.

Polokwane and Limpopo rugby fans are once again in for a treat as the Vodacom Bulls, under a new coaching regime and bustling with some of the country’s best young talent, will take on the Emirates Lions who dominated the provincial competition by winning the Absa Currie Cup in great style.

With kick-off set for 17h00 a host of activities will precede the rugby and the scene will be set for an epic encounter between these two rugby giants. Both teams will be looking to assert a bit of early dominance and will no doubt be looking to send a positive pre-season message to theirfans.

Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, said that the Polokwane fixture has fast become one of the highlights of their pre-season preparations: “The professionalism shown by the organising committee is always of the highest standard and reception we receive from the fans isalso something that our players and management really look forward to. So it is always a real pleasure for our team to play in Polokwane.”

According to Van Graan, the Vodacom Bulls are keen to become the people’s team and this is a great opportunity to connect with the fans. “In this regard, it’s also a great spectacle for all the rugby fans in Polokwane and the rest of Limpopo, as most of them are not able to travel to Pretoria for Vodacom Super Rugby games. Most importantly, we are honoured that by participating in this match as we can assist in enabling young learners to further their education. We saw the need for funding of students highlighted this year and we are proud to say that we were contributing to education for the last couple of years.”

Polokwane Executive Mayor, Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng said besides entertainment for the fans, “the game presents a welcome opportunity for the municipality to raise funds for tertiary students who will in future assist it in realising the 2030 Smart City Vision. Our appreciation goes to the Blue Bulls Company for their continued partnership on this journey”.

She called upon Polokwane and Limpopo community to support the event. “We call upon all residents of Polokwane and elsewhere in Limpopo Province irrespective of whether you are rugby fans or not, to come in numbers to support this worthy cause that is poised to make a difference in the lives of our own people.”
