Sixteen years after sponsoring the Rugby World Cup in South Africa, and less than four months before the 2011 tournament kicks off in New Zealand, HeinekenÒ is bringing the historic Webb Ellis Cup to South Africa.

The iconic trophy, which will be presented to the winning team at the finals on October 23rd, arrives in South Africa on April 15th as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour presented by HeinekenÒ.

It offers the country’s rugby fans the rare chance to be photographed with the coveted silver trophy that’s named for William Webb Ellis (widely seen as the innovator of the game) and has been won by South Africa twice – including that intensely emotional and unforgettable 1995 win.

Says acting Marketing Manager for HeinekenÒ in South Africa, Ashley Poezyn-Small, “We are very proud to be a global sponsor of one of world sport’s most prestigious and exciting events.

“We’re even more thrilled to announce that the Web Ellis Cup will be here in South Africa, to inspire both fans and our national rugby team as they prepare for the 2011 event.”

The Rugby World Cup Tour presented by HeinekenÒ arrives at OR Tambo International Airport on April 16th after an overnight flight from Dublin, Ireland. It heads directly to Soweto for a fan photo opportunity at News Café and then travels to Rhapsody’s in Pretoria for Pretoria based fans meet the cup.  The main tour event will take place at Montecasino on Sunday the 17th of April providing an opportunity for fans to be photographed with this historic Cup.

Cape Town is next when the Rugby World Cup Tour presented by HeinekenÒ arrives in the Mother City on April 19th, preparing for a day of meeting the fans at the V&A Waterfront on April 23rd.

At all stop-offs on the Rugby World Cup Tour fans are in for a great time: not only can they meet and be photographed with the Web Ellis Cup (and get their picture printed on-the-spot) but there will also be plenty of official Rugby World Cup 2011 Memorabilia on display as well as a number of rugby legends to meet and share their rugby stories with.

The Rugby World Cup Tour presented by HeinekenÒ draws on the huge popularity of the sport in South Africa and across the globe.

Since the first Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 1987, the event has grown into the 3rd largest world sporting event. The number of spectators has more than doubled and in 2007 RWC was watched by more than 2.24 million people and the number of member IRB countries has risen from 42 to 120. As a result, rugby is now the fastest growing sport in the world.

Following its stop-off in South Africa the Rugby World Cup Tour presented by HeinekenÒ heads for Argentina on April 26th before making its final journey to Australia and then New Zealand, in time for the September 9th kick-off of this incredible global sporting event.
