Tigers losing their Stripes?
The much anticipated match between and Ikeys and Pukke took place today at a vey windy and cold Green mile.
The Pukke dominated much of the possesion and territory during the first half of the match.
Rhyno Smith, full back of The Pukke, converted a penalty and they led 3 – 0 in the first 15 min of the game.
Wilmar Arnoldi scored the first try and Rhyno Smith converted once again, bringing the score to 10 – 0 in NWU Pukke’s favour.
Bartholomeus Le Roux went over for his teams second try after Pukke enjoyed much of the possession and territory, The try was converted by Rhyno Smith which brought the tally to 17 – 0.
Late in the second half Ikeys managed to retain possession from a mistake by Pukke who conceded a kickable penalty and replacement flyhalve Joel Smith nailed the conversion which brought the half time score to 3 – 17 in Pukke’s favour.
After the break, Pukke dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Ikeys however managed to obtain possession after a handling error from NWU and forced a penalty. Joel Smith converted to bring the score to 6 – 17 in Pukke’s favour.
Pukke dominated most of the match and Ikeys had no answer to the attack and flair of the Pukke backline.
Walt Steenkamp scored the Pukke’s 3rd try after a beautiful break by Sylvian Mahuza.
The try was scored after the ball went through a few phases. Rhyno Smith was unable to convert.
This is the Ikeys 3rd successive lost and one hope that they will return to the form that won them Varsity Cup a few seasons ago.
Well done on a deserved win for NWU Pukke.
