THE Boland Cavaliers ran in 16 tries as they smashed the Welwitschias 110-10 in a Currie Cup Qualifier at the Boland Stadium on Saturday.

With this win the Cavaliers secured another valuable bonus point and further boosted their chances of qualifying for the Premier division later this season.

Fullback Nico Scheepers was Boland’s leading points scorer on the day with 45 points, including three tries and fifteen (out of sixteen) conversions. Scheepers’ contribution was only one point short of the Currie Cup record for most points in a Currie Cup match, which is held by Jannie de Beer who scored 46 points against Northern Free State in 1997 (3 tries, 14 conversions, 1 penalty).

Boland’s centre pairing of Ryan Nell and Christopher Bosch scored 4 tries each, while wing Sergio Torrens scored a brace. Nell’s 4 tries puts him on the top of the Currie Cup try scoring list with 12 tries for the season so far.

In his 50th cap for the Cavaliers, lock Hanno Kitshoff celebrated this milestone with a try, while Keenan Cronje (flank) and William van Wyk (replacement flyhalf) also contributed with 1 try each.
