The SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial Series will gain momentum on Saturday as the teams contest the second round of matches following an opening round dominated by big wins earlier this month.

Western Province will meet SWD in the opening match of the A Section at the Pniel Villagers Rugby Club outside Stellenbosch, while defending champions, Border, will host KwaZulu-Natal at the BCM Stadium in East London, and the Blue Bulls will go up against Eastern Province at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Border, Eastern Province and KwaZulu-Natal will be hunting their second victories of the season, while the Blue Bulls and Western Province will be looking to make the most of their first home games to close in on the early pace-setters in the competition.

In the B Section, the Leopards will begin their campaign against the Pumas at Profert Olën Park in Potchefstroom after a bye in the opening round, and the Valke will go up against the Limpopo Blue Bulls at the NWU Vaal Rugby Club in Vanderbijilpark.

The Valke and Limpopo Blue Bulls both suffered defeats in their season-opening matches and will be determined to bounce back this week, while the Leopards will face tough competition against the Pumas who defeated the Valke 50-20.

In Stellenbosch, Western Province will go up against an SWD team desperate to make their presence felt after struggling in the last few seasons, while Border will draw inspiration from the fact that they have not lost a match since the 2013 season when they line up against KwaZulu-Natal.

However, the Durban side will be equally motivated to win after putting up a good fight against a determined Blue Bulls outfit in their first match, which steered them to a 14-10 victory.

The clash between the Blue Bulls and Eastern Province should also be thrilling, as both teams will give everything to emerge victorious. Eastern Province, in particular, come off a morale-boosting 32-17 victory against Western Province, but the Blue Bulls would have taken lessons from their defeat two weeks ago and will have their sets sights on a much stronger showing against the Port Elizabeth side.

In the B Section, meanwhile, the Pumas will want to build on their impressive display in the first round, but the Leopards could be a force to reckoned with if they replicate the form that saw them advance to the B Section final last season against the Free State.

The clash between the Valke and Limpopo Blue Bulls is expected to be close as the teams were closely matched in terms of their attack in their opening matches, but were both let down by their defence.
