The Simbas opponents in Saturday’s Elgon Cup/Rugby Africa encounter, Uganda, will arrive in the country on Thursday in readiness for the fixture.

It will be recalled that the last time these two teams met was on 4 June 2016 at the Legends Rugby Club in Kampala, the Kenya Simbas running off with the 48-10 win on the day.

In related news, the Simbas match day 23 will be announced on Thursday morning by the team’s technical bench

Changes In Elgon Cup Curtain Raisers

Changes have been made to the curtain raising fixtures for Saturday’s Elgon Cup action at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

The clash between Nairobi School and Lenana will not take place as previously advertised. Instead, Alliance and Ofafa Jericho will face off at 12.00pm.

Kenya U19 will then play Northern Suburbs Cubs at 1.30pm. This fixture has been occasioned by Uganda’s withdrawal of their U19 side from Saturday’s fixture.

The top drawer clash between Kenya and Uganda which also doubles up as a Rugby Africa Division 1A encounter remains at 3.30pm on the day.

van Heerden Takes Charge Of Elgon Cup Clash

South African Jaco van Heerden will be the man in charge of the Elgon Cup return leg clash between Kenya  and Uganda in Nairobi on Saturday 30 July 2016.

The 33 year old law graduate from the University of Pretoria is a member of the South African Referees Elite Panel and has previously officiated fixtures in the Currie Cup, Vodacom Cup and Super Rugby.

His assistants on the on the day will be Jerome Alabu from Botswana and Jacky Husselnmann from Namibia.

This tie also doubles up as a Rugby Africa Division 1A fixture.

Kenya v Uganda Factfile

There have been a total of 26 meetings between Kenya and Uganda, Kenya winning the first ever meeting between the sides, posting a 21-11 score in Kampala on 24 May 1958.

It would be 39 years before the two sides met again, Kenya picking up from that win in Kampala with a 65-8 demolition job of the Rugby Cranes at the RFUEA Ground on 23 August 1997. They would post three more wins before Uganda notched up their first ever win against Kenya, posting a 31-22 result over the Simbas in Nairobi on 5 October 2002.

In totality, the Simbas lead the head to head record with 17 wins and 8 losses.

When the two sides step out on to the RFUEA turf on Saturday, it will not only be regional bragging rights in the form of the Elgon Cup in store but also African rugby rankings at store as the match doubles up as a Rugby Africa Division 1A encounter/
