Steval Pumas physiotherapist Luzahn Louw has announced the team’s injured players from the 2nd round Currie Cup match against the Golden Lions this past Saturday.
Several players are still awaiting results of scans, determining the severity of injuries.
New injuries:
• Justin van Staden is doing limited training after he picked up an injury to his toe.
• Reynier van Rooyen is doing limited training while waiting the results of an MRI scan for a tear to his MCL.
• Deon Helberg is sitting out training with a bicep contusion. Results from an MRI scan will determine whether there is a tear.
• Hennie Skorbinski is not training after he suffered a concussion during the game and is undergoing tests.
• Khwezi Mona is sitting out training with an injury to his left eye socket. He may have to undergo surgery.
Short-term injuries and returning players:
• Lambert Groenewald is recovering well from a calf muscle tear. He should be able to start full training next Monday.
• Stephan Greeff is sitting out training and may have to undergo surgery for a shoulder contusion.
• Marne Coetzee is training with limits for his MCL tear.
• Heinrich Steyl is not training whilst undergoing rehab for a hamstring strain.
• Brian Shabangu is doing limited training while recovering from an intercostal muscle injury.
• Hoffman Maritz should soon get clearance to train after his calf muscle strain.
• Reuben Johannes has also almost recovered from a calf muscle strain and should soon get clearance to train.
• Ruwellyn Isbel has been referred to an occupational therapist for his fractured thumb but is training without contact.
Update on long-term injuries:
• Simon Westraad is still undergoing rehab following surgery on a dislocated shoulder. He should only be available for selection in September.
• Johan Herbst has started rehab for a ruptured bicep injury. Anticipated date of return is October.
• Giant Mtyanda is having his left ACL reconstructed in Durban. Anticipated date of return is March 2017.
• Chris Cloete will also need to have his ACL reconstructed.
• Rassie van Vuuren has decided to end his career due to the injury to his lumbar disc.
