NSW Waratahs lock in Dean Mumm and Leon Power
The NSW Waratahs are pleased to announce the signing of powerful locks, Dean Mumm and Leon Power.
Mumm has re-signed to the Club for another year, while new signing, Power has joined for the next two seasons.
The 30-year-old Power has spent the last two years playing for French club, Oyonnax in the Top 14. Prior to that he earned 20 caps for the Brumbies from 2012 to 2014.
Mumm returned to the NSW Waratahs in 2016, after making his comeback to Australian rugby during last year’s Rugby World Cup where he Captained the Wallabies against Uruguay. He previously spent eight years with the Waratahs before a stint overseas with the Exeter Chiefs from 2012.
Mumm has a wealth of leadership experience behind him as one of three Tahs this year to run out for his 100th game for NSW and Super Rugby.
NSW Waratahs Head Coach, Daryl Gibson said the signings were key to strengthening the NSW Waratahs’ pack for 2017.
“Both Leon and Dean are quality players with a wealth of knowledge,” Gibson said.
“The lineout is a key growth area for us next season. We need to be able to win quality ball and these two players have the ability to analyse and lead that.
“Their experience will provide a good balance with the new talent coming through the team.
“They will help to develop and nurture the next generation of NSW locks in Ned Hanigan, Senio Toleafoa, Ryan McCauley and Will Skelton.”
Power was born in Sydney before moving to New Zealand where he was a representative of the New Zealand Under 21s in 2007. He is currently playing for Taranaki in the ITM Cup, having first joined the Club back in 2009 before moving to the Bay of Plenty.
With 113 NSW and 48 Test caps to his name Mumm is a key member of the NSW Waratahs leadership group. He is a loyal and well-respected player of the Club having made his NSW debut back in 2004.
