Kenya bowed out of the Dubai Sevens with a 19-21 loss to the USA in a Trophy semifinal encounter at The Sevens in Dubai on Saturday afternoon.

The USA rattled Kenya early on, Madison Hughes converting Danny Barret’s try before scoring and converting his own effort for a 14-0 lead after three minutes of play.

Willy Ambaka got Kenya back into the game, shrugging off his marker to score under the posts, Brian Tanga adding the extras to halve the deficit before Nelson Oyoo brought Kenya to within two points of the USA at the break.

Hughes scored and converted immediately after the restart, the USA going 21-12 up. The Kenyans, gaining prominence in the game’s latter stages, knocked at the USA’s door, Ambaka eventually beating his man on the outside to land his brace, Tanga sure with the conversion to cut the deficit to 21-19 with two minutes to play.

The USA would hold out for the result, setting up a date against Samoa in the Trophy Final.
