  • DHL Stormers fight back for Singapore win
  • Jaguares down Reds to continue impressive start

Debutant wing Madosh Tambwe scored two tries in the Emirates Lions’ comprehensive 42-19 victory over the Southern Kings in their Vodacom Super Rugby match in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. The DHL Stormers and the Cell C Sharks were also on the winning side in their round five matches.

In the last match of the weekend played on Saturday evening (SA time), winger Ramiro Moyano scored a superb solo try as the Jaguares continued their impressive start by defeating the Reds 22-8 in Buenos Aires. The Argentine side has now won four of their five matches this season.

A successful fightback in the second half saw the DHL Stormers overcome the Sunwolves 44-31 in their Singapore encounter, while the Cell C Sharks won their local derby 38-30 against the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. The Vodacom Bulls, however, suffered their third defeat in four games in their 38-14 loss to the Blues in Albany.

Young Cell C Sharks flyhalf Curwin Bosch delivered another impressive performance which saw him named as the Player of the Match. Apart from his lively overall display, Bosch was also on target with his place kicking, slotting over three conversions and four penalties for a personal tally of 18 points.

Earlier in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in PE, the Emirates Lions hit top gear in the first half which netted them a comfortable lead of 35-12 at the break. The Joburg outfit eventually outscored the Kings by six tries to three to record their fourth win from five starts. They are top of Africa Conference 1 with 19 points and are followed by the Jaguares (18) and the team from Durban (17).

In Singapore, the DHL Stormers eventually won 44-31 over the Sunwolves. However, the Cape side had to work extremely hard for their win following an impressive start from the Sunwolves. They scored six tries but conceded four and the win increased their lead in Africa Conference 2. The Capetonians have 17 points from their four wins in as many games.

In the first match of the day featuring a South African side, the Vodacom Bulls succumbed to the second-half pressure of the Blues and suffered a 38-14 reverse in the first match of their New Zealand tour. Although the teams were locked 7-all at halftime the Blues piled on the pressure in the second stanza and scored five tries to clinch the match.
