Qantas Wallabies vice-captain Will Genia has signed with Australian Rugby, committing to a two-year deal with the ARU and the Melbourne Rebels until the end of 2019.

The 29-year old has returned to Australian shores following a stint with French powerhouse Stade Francais in Paris.

Now a veteran of 78 Tests, Genia also boasts 114 games of Super Rugby experience after nine seasons with the Queensland Reds.

Qantas Wallabies vice-captain, Will Genia said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the guys down in Melbourne, they have a great young team with plenty still to achieve in Super Rugby, so I’m excited to get stuck in 2018.

“First and foremost I’m there to contribute to the desired success of the club on the field through my performance and ability as a player. After that, it’ll be a great chance to bring some of the things I’ve learned over the years to the club, and help drive the club forward.

“I was always clear that I wanted to return to Australian Rugby. I love playing for my country and can’t wait to have another opportunity to pull on the gold jersey this weekend,” Genia said.

Genia was the 78th man to captain the Wallabies when he led Australia against the United States of America at the 2011 Rugby World Cup and has since skippered the side on four occasions.

The halfback with joins his Rebels teammates early next year ahead of the 2018 Vodafone Super Rugby season.
