Rob Simmons signs with Australian Rugby and NSW Waratahs
Qantas Wallabies lock Rob Simmons has signed with Australian Rugby, committing to a two-year deal with the ARU and NSW Waratahs until the end of 2019.
The 28-year old will move south from Queensland to join the NSW Waratahs after 114 games for the Reds.
Simmons, who boasts 73 Test caps, will now remain on Australian shores until the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
Qantas Wallabies lock, Rob Simmons said: “I’m really looking forward to joining the lads in Sydney, they have a great team with a balance of experience and some very good young players and some big goals to achieve in Super Rugby.
“Queensland has been great to me but I’m looking forward to doing whatever I can to take the Tahs to where they want to be. Hopefully, I can add some experience to the side, and we can push for finals next year.
“I definitely wanted to stay in Australian Rugby. I love playing for the Wallabies and hopefully I’ll have another chance to pull on the gold jersey next weekend against South Africa” Simmons said.
Simmons already has a Super Rugby title to his name after taking home the trophy with Queensland in 2011, while he was a mainstay for the Wallabies in their run to the World Cup Final in 2015.
Simmons will join his Wallabies teammates in camp in Perth this Sunday, ahead of facing South Africa at Perth’s nib Stadium on Saturday 9th September.
