O'Connor cops one-week ban while Butch awaits his fate
The Western Force’s star player James O’Connor has been suspended from rugby for one week and will miss his side’s final Super Rugby match of the season against Melbourne Rebels next weekend.
O’Connor was cited after his side’s narrow 24-21 loss against the Reds for lifting and dropping Reds captain James Horwill. He faced a judicial hearing on Sunday and was found guilty of foul play in the lower end of the scale. SANZAR officer Michael Cashman handed O’Connor a 1-week ban after taking into consideration the mitigating circumstances and the lack af aggrevating features.
Meanwhile, Butch James from the MTN Lions were also called to the headmaster’s office after his team’s 30 all draw against the Sharks in Johannesburg.
James was cited for a dangerous tackle on Sharks flanker Keegan Daniel in the second half of the match for which he also received a yellow card.
James will appear at a hearing in Johannesburg at 12h00 CAT on Monday 13 June. The hearing will be chaired by Rob Stelzner.
