ENGLAND SEVENS SQUAD NAMED FOR LAS VEGAS
Simon Amor has named his squad for the HSBC Las Vegas Sevens which takes place on 2-4 March 2018.
England will face Canada, Wales and South Africa in their Pool B fixtures at the three-day tournament, broadcast live on Sky Sports Action (2 and 4 March) and Sky Sports Main Event (3 March).
One change has been made to the side that will be led out by captain Tom Mitchell at the Sam Boyd Stadium. After making a big impact for his team in the opening two legs of this season’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, Harry Glover returns to the squad alongside an otherwise unchanged team that played in Hamilton earlier this month.
“We’re really excited about the unique challenge that playing in Las Vegas will bring next weekend,” said head of England Sevens Simon Amor.
“The narrow and recently resurfaced pitch lends itself to a more confrontational style of game, and while we must make sure our intensity in these contact areas is spot on, we must still play with accuracy and excitement.”
“There’s a short turnaround once you’ve had a chance to get over the jet lag coming off the back of Hamilton but we’ve worked extremely hard as a squad in preparation for Las Vegas and are looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.
“We’re also really pleased to have Harry Glover back in the squad with the excitement that he brings and are grateful to Newcastle University for releasing Harry for the tournament.”
Alongside the World Series tournament England’s Will Edwards, Charlie Hayter and Ryan Olowofela will compete in the Las Vegas international with Amor adding: “The invitational provides a really good opportunity for Will, Ryan and Charlie to get some more game time as they push on in developing their fitness for upcoming World Series tournaments and the Commonwealth Games.”
