TICKETS ON SALE TOMORROW FOR HISTORIC 2018 IRELAND SERIES
The wait is almost over for Rugby fans looking to take part in history with tickets going on sale to the general public at 10.00am AEST tomorrow for the 2018 Test Series between the Qantas Wallabies and Ireland.
The June series will be the first ever three-Test series between the two nations with matches to be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on June 9, AAMI Park in Melbourne on June 16, and Allianz Stadium in Sydney on June 23.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said Brisbane would again prove to be an ideal host for a Wallabies Test match.
“We know the Irish will be fierce competition for the Wallabies and we look forward to watching them battle it out at Suncorp Stadium, Australia’s best rectangular sporting facility.
“Queensland has emerged as Australia’s new global sports hub, with events like this drawing visitors from around the world and showcasing our unbeatable tourism experiences,” Minister Jones said.
NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said: “There is no better place than Sydney to host the final game of what is set to be a fiercely contested series against Ireland, the hottest team in world rugby at the moment.
“The Wallabies haven’t lost to Ireland in the Harbour City since 1979 so I encourage fans to get their tickets early and cheer them on as they look to continue their winning streak on home soil.”
The upcoming series will see the Lansdowne Cup, which was established in 1999 as the perpetual trophy between Australia and Ireland, contested for the first time as a best-out-of-three series.
Ireland, the current Six Nations leaders and world number three, will head down under full of confidence having won three of the four most recent clashes with the Qantas Wallabies dating back to 2011.
The Wallabies however have had the wood on their rivals here in Australia, having not been defeated by the Irish on home soil since 1979.
Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle said: ‘’The rivalry between the Qantas Wallabies and Ireland has proven a history of tight contests with only a handful of points deciding our most recent Test matches.
“Ireland are currently pressing hard in the Six Nations and the Wallabies are up for the challenge, which will make for a fantastic series here in June.
“There are huge numbers of Irish expats living here in Australia and we are expecting the Irish community to come out in force to see what should be a very competitive series and share in a slice of history with this being the first three-Test Lansdowne Cup series.
Wallabies fans have already shown their anticipation for the series by snapping up loads of tickets during the exclusive pre-sale periods for the Rugby community and Super Rugby members.”
