Simon Amor has named his 12-man squad for the eighth round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Singapore on 28-29 April.

Three changes have been made to the side that secured the bronze medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games for Team England.

An injury to Ethan Waddleton (foot) and university commitments for Harry Glover provide opportunities for Charlie Hayter and Charlton Kerr to come into the squad while Ryan Olowofela will be the side’s 13th man.

Experienced Hayter was 13th man for Team England on the Gold Coast while Charlton Kerr – who has recently returned from injury – will make Singapore his second tournament on the World Series this season following Hong Kong earlier this month.

England, who won bronze in Singapore last season, are drawn in Pool B and will face Kenya, USA and France on day one which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Action.

“We have worked hard to develop our game over the last few months and we are pleased with that progress up to the Commonwealth Games. It was disappointing to lose out to New Zealand in the semi-final but we were delighted to get the bronze medal and that gives us good confidence going forward into Singapore and for the rest of the season as we build towards the World Cup,” said head of England Sevens, Simon Amor.

Due to the scheduling of the Commonwealth Games, Singapore acts as a standalone tournament this season where it is usually paired with Hong Kong.

Amor added: “All the teams will have had a break either from Hong Kong or the Commonwealths going into this leg of the World Series. The important thing for us this week has been acclimatising to the heat and the humidity with some really tough training sessions to ensure the team are best prepared going into the weekend.

“It’s great to be able to bring two very young and talented players in Charlton Kerr and Ryan Olowofela into the squad for Singapore. Ryan has done a great job in the World Series tournaments that he’s played in so far this season and Charlton, who has been out for 11 months through injury, has really shown some great signs of the talent he has in Hong Kong so we’re excited to bring him into the mix for Singapore.”
