RUGBY AUSTRALIA CONGRATULATES BRUMBIES PROP BEN ALEXANDER ON 150 SUPER RUGBY CAPS
Rugby Australia has today paid tribute to veteran prop Ben Alexander who became just the fifth Australian player to play 150 Super Rugby matches in the Brumbies’ clash with the Lions in Johannesburg Saturday.
Alexander is the first Brumbies player to hit the landmark and joins just eleven others in Super Rugby history who have played 150 matches, including Australians Stephen Moore, Nathan Sharpe, George Smith and Tatafu Polota-Nau.
The tighthead prop debuted in Super Rugby, and for his country back in 2008 and since then has been the backbone of the Brumbies scrum and a solid contributor for the Qantas Wallabies.
Adding on his 72 Tests for the Wallabies, Alexander is clearly the most experienced prop in Australian Rugby history.
Rugby Australia Chief Executive Raelene Castle said: ‘’On behalf of the Australian Rugby community we congratulate Ben Alexander on his 150th Super Rugby cap, which is a huge milestone in itself, but a special one for Ben given he has played every single one of them with his beloved Brumbies.
‘’Ben has set a great example both on and off the field over the course of a decade in professional Rugby and we are incredibly proud of his achievements, and grateful for his contribution to the sport.
Sydney-born Alexander was schooled at Knox Grammar School, where he represented NSW Schools before moving to Canberra to study at the University of Canberra and linked with Uni-Norths Owls. From there he was selected in the Australian Under 21s side and worked his way through the Brumbies Academy into a maiden Super Rugby berth in 2008.
