FINAL DRAW CONFIRMED FOR UNINTERRUPTED 2019 VODAFONE SUPER RUGBY SEASON
The 2019 Vodafone Super Rugby season will see back to back provincial Rugby at its best with no breaks for Internationals across the 18 rounds of competition kicking off on February 15 and concluding with the Final on July 6.
With the Rugby World Cup kicking off in Japan in September, fans can follow the current Wallabies stars and World Cup squad hopefuls battle it out for a ticket to the game’s showpiece event by leading their Super Rugby teams to glory.
The now uninterrupted competition window will be well received by Super Rugby fans across the southern hemisphere.
FOX SPORTS will continue to be the home of Vodafone Super Rugby with every match to be broadcast LIVE, and ad break free during play in 2019.
Australia’s four Super Rugby teams – the Queensland Reds, NSW Waratahs, Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels, alongside Japan’s Sunwolves will face off to secure the all-important Australian Conference title which offers a guaranteed home final.
There will be 12 Aussie derbies on Australian soil in 2019 as well as 15 Trans-Tasman battles featuring Australian teams against the five New Zealand provinces.
When the Aussie sides head to the Republic to take on South Africa’s teams, there will only be three games that kick off after midnight, meaning more friendly viewing times for local fans when their team is playing abroad.
The Brumbies and Rebels will open the 2019 season in the first Australian derby in Canberra on Friday 15 February.
The Waratahs host the Hurricanes in the opening round at Brookvale Oval, in what will be a season away from their regular home during the reconstruction of the Sydney Football Stadium.
NSW will play home matches at Brookvale Oval, the Sydney Cricket Ground, McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle and the soon to be completed Western Sydney Stadium at Parramatta.
The Queensland Reds will kick off their season at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane in round three with a re-match of the 2011 Vodafone Super Rugby Final when they meet the defending-champion Crusaders in what will be Brad Thorn’s second season in charge.
The Melbourne Rebels will be looking to build on a strong 2018 campaign, where they posted a team-record seven wins and narrowly missed out on finals action.
Round four is officially ‘Derby Round’ with the Rebels hosting the Brumbies on Friday 8 March, and the Waratahs taking on the Queensland Reds on the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday 9 March.
Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle said: “Vodafone Super Rugby is the strongest provincial Rugby competition in the world, featuring the best players in the world.
“Each of our teams saw improvement in the 2018 season and will be looking to deliver the consistent, quality performances their fans want to see and make a push for finals.
“The 2019 season promises to be a great one for Australians fans with an uninterrupted competition and more games featuring our Australian teams in friendly viewing times when they are on the road.
“Being a World Cup year, it will add a lot of additional interest as fans track their favourite players across the competition to assess their chances of breaking through for a place in the World Cup squad at the end of the year.”
