Eastern Province and Western Province continued to stamp their authority on the A Section of the SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial competition on Saturday as they registered their second round of victories, proving they could be forces to be reckoned with this season.

A four-try romp by Eastern Province No 8 Aseza Hele steered her team to a comprehensive 36-0 victory against Boland in Montagu, with the PE team running in a total of six tries in the match.

The women from the Eastern Cape delivered a strong showing all-around, with their forwards and backs combining well on attack, while their defence was rock-solid, which denied the opposition from scoring a point.

Defending champions, DHL Western Province, meanwhile overcame a tightly-contested first half against the Sharks in Durban to register a narrow 15-10 victory.

The teams entered the break tied at 5-5, but two tries by the Capetonians after the break – which saw flanker Sinazo Mcatshulwa wrap up her brace – to only one by the hosts, saw the women from KZN suffer their first defeat of the season.

Border, meanwhile bounced back strongly from their disappointing start to the competition as they defeated the Blue Bulls 22-5 in East London, outscoring their opponents four tries to one.

The Eastern Cape team showed composure on attack and chipped away at the Blue Bulls throughout the game, which saw them take a 10-0 lead at the break before securing the 22-5 victory. In a fine team effort four different players crossed the tryline.

SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial round two results:

Boland 0-36 Eastern Province (King Edward Sport Grounds, Montagu)

Sharks 10-15 Western Province (KP2, Kings Park, Durban)

Border 22-5 Blue Bulls (Police Rugby Club, East London)
