Cavaliers Prop Eugene Butterworth on the charge

The Boland Cavaliers beat WP u.21 Team 29-0 at the Van Der Stel Sports fields in Stellenbosch on Tuesday in a friendly match.

Although both teams enjoyed their fair share of possession, the Cavaliers were much more clinical than the u.21’s with ball in hand, producing 5 tries to 0 in the end of the day. Even more importantly is the fact that the ‘Men in Pink’ defended like men possessed – something that could come in handy for the Cavaliers once the Currie Cup kicks-off next weekend.

The Bolanders seem to be a well coached unit at the moment since it was a collective effort from the entire team that produced the goods. Even when Eugene Eloff, Boland’s Director of coaching gave the benchwarmers a run, the Cavaliers never lost their momentum as the reserves slotted in with ease.

Although it was a true team effort that set the platform for a great win, certain individuals provided that extra spark on the attack. Utility back Cornal Hendricks (wing) was absolutely brilliant with ball in hand and on the attack he combined particularly well with outside centre PJ Vermeulen.

All Boland’s forwards deserves credit for the way they performed, although prop Eugene Butterworth, hooker Chris Buckle and locks Ligtoring Landman and Grant le Roux deserves a special mention.

Reserves Henju van Niekerk (lock) and Thor Halvorsen (loose forward) also gave the coaches some food for thought once they made their appearance off the bench.

The Boland Cavaliers kicks-off their Currie Cup (First Division) campaign on 16/07/2011 against Border at the Boland Stadium in Wellington.
