England men’s Sevens head coach Tony Roques has named his 13-player squad for the forthcoming Singapore and Vancouver Sevens (9-10 April and 16-17 April, broadcast live on www.world.rugby).

Drawn in Pool B, England take on Spain, Samoa and Australia at the National Stadium, Singapore.

The squad is formed from a mix of Premiership, university, and core contracted sevens players.

All-time World Rugby Sevens Series appearance holder and try-scorer Dan Norton returns to the sevens set-up after impressing in camps.

Alex Davis captains the side while Blake Boyland and Joe Browning (Leicester Tigers) return having impressed in the Spain World Series events.

Toby Baldwin (Wasps) is set to make his international sevens debut having been training with the squad in recent weeks.

Api Bavadra comes in for his first appearance of the 2022 season while the rest of the group were part of the squad to secure bronze in Malaga.

Since the Malaga and Seville tournaments in January, the squad have continued their preparations at Loughborough University and also played a behind-closed-doors training event with Wales and Scotland.

Roques said: “We’re all looking forward to the Singapore and Vancouver tournaments.

“The team have worked extremely hard since competing in Spain.

“We have a consistency of players in the group which is important, but we have also been able to make some changes and give fresh opportunities to impress.

“We are delighted to welcome Dan back into England Sevens. He came into camp on a training basis and has earned his spot with his efforts. He’s also fitted right into the squad and we can’t wait to see him back in an England shirt.

“The collaboration between the sevens programme, clubs and universities is key. It was brilliant to see Joe Browning make his Tigers debut in the Premiership Rugby Cup recently and now heading to Singapore with the Sevens. There has also been some great collaboration with the universities which enables young talented players like Jamie Barden (University of Nottingham), Jamie Adamson (Durham University) and Api Bavadra (Leeds Beckett University) to pull on an England 7s shirt.

“It will be fantastic to return to competition and we’re all looking forward to the challenge.”
