Fijian flanker cited after dangerous tackle on Lambie
Fijian flanker Dominiko Waqaniburotu has been cited after a dangerous tackle on South African fullback Pat Lambie in their Pool D match on Saturday. Fiji lost the match 49-3 against a rampant Springbok team.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Fijian team have been informed about the citing and the case will be heard by Independent Judicial Officer Christopher Quinlan of England in Auckland with the time and date to be confirmed.
Waqaniburotu will have to explain his actions after video footage showed how he tackled Lambie late and then continued to tip and drive him into the ground. An offense for which he was only penalised but did not receive a yellow or red card after assistant referee Vinnie Munroe advised referee Romain Poite about the incident.
Waqaniburotu becomes the third player to face disciplinary action in the 2011 tournament. England lock Courtney Lawes was banned for two matches after he was found guilty of striking Argentina hooker Mario Ledesma with the knee. In the other case USA captain Todd Clever walked out a free man after no action was taken against his dangerous tackle in their match against Russia.
