The President’s Cup finals, presented by Totalsports, will take place at DHL Newlands on Heritage Day, 24th September.

The President’s Cup is an annual Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Club Rugby competition, which sees the top six teams in each of the top three Super Leagues, (Super League A, B and C) battle it out for the President’s Cup trophies.

The President’s Cup finals, which are sponsored by Totalsports, Treble Group, Powerade, Deep Heat, Castle Lager, TJ’s Lekka Braai and Cape Rugby TV, will showcase the best Club Rugby talent in Western Province at DHL Newlands on Heritage Day, 24th September.

Entrance to this festival of WPRFU Club Rugby is R10 with tickets available at the stadium box office, or through your club, unless you are wearing your club jersey, in which case entrance is free.

The Super League A President’s Cup Final will be an all-Stellenbosch affair as Maties take on Victorians. Maties were too strong for defending President’s Cup champions Hamiltons, who they beat 52-19 in their semifinal on Saturday, whilst Victorians got the better of league champions False Bay who went down 29-17 in their semifinal.

The Super League B President’s Cup Final will see Hamlets take on Union-Milnerton. Hamlets managed to beat Pniel Villagers 26-17 away from home in their semifinal, and Union-Milnerton proved too strong for Bellville as they picked up a comfortable 38-17 victory in their semifinal on Saturday.

In the Super League C semifinals there were home wins for Paarl RFC and Rangers RFC, with Paarl beating Franschoek RFC 23-15 and Rangers picking up a 22-12 victory over Langa RFC to book their places at DHL Newlands on Heritage Day.

President of the WPRFU Mr Thelo Wakefield said that the President’s Cup is set to showcase the strength of club rugby in Western Province once more.

“Club rugby is the lifeblood of our game in Western Province, and it is always great to see the passion that the President’s Cup creates.

“There are 110 clubs in Western Province which span a wide range of different communities, and truly bring people together.

“We look forward to some quality rugby, and a celebration of club rugby at DHL Newlands on Heritage Day,” he said.
