ARU CONGRATULATES WARATAHS AND BRUMBIES ON SUPER RUGBY FINAL SERIES QUALIFICATION
The Australian Rugby Union congratulates the NSW Waratahs and University of Canberra Brumbies for their outstanding performances in securing a spot in the 2014 Asteron Life Super Rugby Finals Series.
This year produced an exceptionally competitive Australian Conference, with the Waratahs and Brumbies now responsible for flying the Australian flag throughout the Finals Series.
The Waratahs excelled under coach Michael Cheika to finish the competition at the top of the Super Rugby ladder for the first time in the professional era, with 58 points and 12 wins over the course of the regular season.
By finishing in first place, they will enjoy a week off during the opening round of the Finals Series before hosting a Semi-Final at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 26 July.
Tickets for the match will become available to the general public from 9:00am AEST on Wednesday 16 July. For ticketing enquiries, including pre-sale information, visit waratahs.com.au/finals.
After finishing in fourth place, the Brumbies will look to take their first steps in repeating their Super Rugby Final heroics of 2013 when they host the Chiefs in a Super Rugby Qualifier on Saturday 19 July at GIO Stadium in Canberra.
Ticketing information for the match can be found on the Brumbies website at brumbies.com.au.
Australian Rugby Union CEO Bill Pulver congratulated the Waratahs and Brumbies.
“On behalf of the wider Australian Rugby community, I would like to congratulate the NSW Waratahs and UC Brumbies on making the Asteron Life Super Rugby Finals Series for 2014,” Mr Pulver said.
“The Australian Conference is widely considered to have been the most hard-fought in years, so to have two Australian provincial sides qualify is a real testament to the quality of Rugby they have produced this season.
“The Waratahs have created their own piece of history by finishing the regular season in first-place, while the Brumbies will be determined to go one better this year after their Super Rugby Final appearance in 2013.”
“We wish the Waratahs and Brumbies the very best of luck in their Finals matches.”
“To the Western Force, St.George Queensland Reds and RaboDirect Melbourne Rebels, we thank you for the on and off field contributions you have made to our code – and your supporters – throughout the year.”
