Augustine Pulu suspended for one week
Counties Manukau halfback Augustine Pulu has been suspended from playing rugby for one week after he was cited for a dangerous tackle during their week 7 Mitre 10 Cup match against Tasman on Thursday night.
Tasman won the match 15 – 10.
Pulu was cited by Citing Commissioner Steve Hinds for a swinging arm tackle (law 10.4 e) on Tasman midfielder David Havili in the 12th minute of the game.
In hearing the case today, Duty Judicial Officer Chris Morris said Pulu had accepted the charge, which Mr Morris noted as reckless and the result of poor technique.
Given he had no relevant previous record and that the poor tackle technique would need correction, Mr Morris deemed a one-week suspension appropriate. Pulu is suspended from participating in any rugby up to 12am (midnight) 9 October. He will not be eligible for selection for Counties Manukau’s Week 8 fixture against Otago next Saturday.
Pulu was yellow carded by referee Jamie Nutbrown during the game for retaliating after late tackle when he punched Tasman prop Ross Geldenhuys 10 minutes from half time. He also received an official Citing Commissioner’s warning for another dangerous tackle (law 10.4e) on Tasman lock Alex Ainley.
Pulu can be considered for selection for their Week 9 fixture against Canterbury at ECOLight Stadium in Pukekohe on Saturday 15 October.
