Four new faces for Oktoberfest Sevens

The Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens squad will take four debutants to the Oktoberfest 7s as Head Coach Andy Friend continues his side’s preparation for HSBC Sevens World Series.

Jeral Skelton, Ben O’Donnell, Maurice Longbottom and Matthew Hood will become the latest players to join the Aussie 7s when they run out in Munich, Germany at the Oktoberfest 7s on September 29.

Experienced duo James Stannard and Tom Lucas will join the young squad alongside up and comers Lachlan Anderson and John Porch.

Qantas Australian Men’s Sevens Head Coach, Andy Friend said: “The Oktoberfest 7s is going to be an excellent marker for us as we continue our pre-season in preparation for a massive year for Rugby Sevens.

“We have a tough pool with three very contrasting styles of Rugby to test ourselves against but we are very much looking forward to it.

“Jeral, Ben, Maurice and Matthew are excellent young players who have great potential and I’m looking forward to seeing them in International tournament match conditions.

“Welcoming Ben to the International arena is a credit to his ability, especially as he is now a contracted Aussie 7s player after the hard work he has done since joining our squad.”

Australia has been placed in Pool C in Munich alongside Fiji, Chile and Ireland with the final day to be broadcast LIVE and exclusive on FOX Sports 506, with the first game at 9pm AEST.

The HSBC World Sevens Series will kick off in Dubai on December 1, for the first of the ten-leg tournament.

It’s a monster 2018 for Andy Friend’s side, with Australia to battle it out on home soil at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.
