The Australian Rugby Union has announced the re-signing of key Qantas Wallabies and ACT Brumbies forwards Sam Carter and Scott Fardy for a further two years.

The new two-year contraction extensions will ensure the talented duo remain in Australia through until at least the end of 2017, further strengthening the Wallabies and Brumbies playing stocks beyond this year’s Rugby World Cup.

The pair have combined for 31 Test appearances with Carter winning the 2014 Qantas Wallabies Rookie of the Year Award, while Fardy made his debut in 2013 against the All Blacks in Sydney.

Carter said he was thrilled to be continuing his future with Australian Rugby.

“It was a really enjoyable experience being part of the Wallabies program last year, and one I’ll continue to work hard towards being part of in the future,” Carter said.

“Right now, we’re in the middle of a really important campaign with the Brumbies, but I’ll be putting my best foot forward to hopefully push my way into Test selection later in the year.”

Fardy said there was plenty to look forward to for the Wallabies at this year’s Rugby World Cup and beyond.

“Being part of a Rugby World Cup is obviously a huge milestone all players in Australia want to be part of, and I think that will bring the best out of most players throughout the year,” Fardy said.

“That’s exciting for Australian Rugby, while I think the squad is building nicely for the future and are in a good position to have success over the next few years.”

Carter enjoyed a remarkable debut season of Test Rugby to start in 11 out of a possible 14 matches, making him one the young rising stars within the Wallabies’ second-row department.

He made the most of his Test opportunity to be named as the Qantas Wallabies best-on-ground in their opening Test victory of 2014 against France, proving he belonged at the elite level with his strong ball carries, stifling defence and composure at set-piece hallmarks of his game.

A quite achiever in the Qantas Wallabies squad, Fardy continued his impressive form in the green and gold jersey during Australia’s clean sweep over France during the June Test series in 2014 and throughout the Rugby Championship, starting 10 straight games.

His efforts came after an impressive debut season in 2013, which included Man of Gold honours in his first starting opportunity for Australia against the All Blacks in Wellington.
