AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S SEVENS TEAM QUALIFY FOR RIO 2016 OLYMPICS
The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens team has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Pool B wins over Russia (29-7) and China (48-0) at the Amsterdam Sevens in the Netherlands this afternoon (GMT) means that Australia have qualified for tomorrow’s Cup Quarter-Finals and now cannot be caught by the teams outside of the top four in the 2014/15 Women’s Sevens World Series standings. Rugby Sevens will be making its debut at the Rio Olympics in August 2016, with Rugby XV’s last appearing in the Games in 1924. The Australian Women play England later today (GMT) for top spot in Pool B. New Zealand qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics in London last week. |
