Backing the Toyota Cheetahs in Brisbane
The Toyota Cheetahs will have their best chance of winning back-to-back matches against Australian opposition when they take on the Reds at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday at 06h40 (RSA time). Out of the three traditional Australian venues, Brisbane is the city where South African teams have the best winning record.
South Africa’s fi ve Vodacom Super Rugby franchises have achieved a 24 percent win record from their 33 Vodacom Super Rugby matches played in Brisbane. This is slightly better than the 22 percent winning record in Sydney against the Waratahs.
Canberra is the least favoured Aussie hunting ground for South African touring teams, with only the Vodacom Bulls (19-7 in 2007) and the Sharks (41-23 in 1998) managing to beat the Brumbies in the Australian capital.
The Toyota Cheetahs, who won their fi rst-ever game outside South Africa since the Cats split in 2006 when they beat the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday (23-3), take on the Reds at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.
The Reds are currently in third position on the combined Vodacom Super Rugby log with 17 points and are leading the Australian conference.
The Toyota Cheetahs’ task will not be easy, as the team from Queensland have not lost in Brisbane this season, having beaten the Western Force (21-20) and the Melbourne Rebels (53-3).
Note: Since the Western Force joined the Vodacom Super Rugby party in 2006, South African teams have won 46.2 percent of their games in Perth (six out of 13).
