Wales’ assistant strength and conditioning coach Dan Baugh will leave the national squad at the end of the 2014 RBS 6 Nations to take up a position as Head of Strength and Conditioning with an Aviva Premiership side.

The former Cardiff Blues and Canada flanker embarked on a coaching career after hanging up his boots in 2005 and joined the Welsh Rugby Union in 2011, bringing an end to a 13-year association with Cardiff Blues.

Working under Head of Physical Performance Adam Beard, Baugh has been part of a physical performance team that has won rave reviews and that has assisted Wales in winning two RBS 6 Nations titles, including a Grand Slam and reaching the semi-final of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The world-wide recruitment process to recruit a new assistant strength and conditioning coach begins immediately.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for Dan who will step up and lead a strength and conditioning department at a top club side,” said Beard.

“He has been an integral part of the physical performance team with Wales and this is reward for all of his hard work.”

“We are delighted for him and I know he will be a great success.”

“We have put together a world-class management team and we will begin the search immediately to replace Dan with the right candidate.”

Dan Baugh said:

“I have been fortunate in my time with the Wales set-up to be part of resurgence in Welsh rugby, which has seen Wales return to its rightful place with the top teams in world rugby.”

“Adam has put together, what I believe, to be the best rugby conditioning environment in world rugby and I appreciate all that this environment has allowed me to become.”

“The players and management here make up an exceptional team and I will miss them all. I wish them nothing but success as they prepare for the upcoming world cup.”

“Personally it’s a very exciting time for me and I’m really looking forward to a new chapter after the current campaign.”
