Big battles expected in Northern APC tournament
Big battles are expected in Nelspruit on Monday when the Northern Amateur Provincial Championship begins at the Nelspruit Rugby Club.
The tournament, which marks the second leg of the South African Rugby Union’s (SARU’s) amateur provincial tournaments, will be played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively, and features the Blue Bulls, Blue Bulls Invitational XV, Falcons, Leopards, Limpopo Blue Bulls, Lions, Pumas Highveld and Pumas Lowveld.
This tournament will be followed by the Central Amateur Provincial Championship in Kimberley from 14 to 18 September. The winners of the three tournaments, meanwhile, will go head-to-head in three matches to crown the Annual Provincial Championship winner. Interestingly, the Leopards were crowned the annual champions last year.
The Lions and Limpopo Blue Bulls will open up the competition when they meet at 13h00, while defending champions, the Leopards, will battle it out with the Blue Bulls Invitational XV at 15h00.
In the other matches, Pumas Highveld will meet the Blue Bulls, and Pumas Lowveld will take on the Valke, who advanced to the final last season, to close off the day’s play.
Monday’s results will determine which teams will line up in the second day’s play on Wednesday.

13h00 – Lions vs Limpopo Blue Bulls
15h00 – Leopards vs Blue Bulls Invitational XV
