Big clashes kick off Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week
The traditional north-south derby between Western Province and the Blue Bulls will feature among several gripping matches on the opening day of the sixth edition of the Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week for Under-15 teams at the Bill Jardine Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday.
The Valke and Griffons will kick off the action at 09h30 on the B Field, while Griquas meet SWD in the opening match on the A Field at 10h00.
The other match-ups will see Eastern Province take on the Sharks, while Boland – who went down to Western Province by two points in the final match last year – will go up against the Pumas, Free State takes on Border and, hosts, the Golden Lions battle it out with the Leopards.
Fourteen teams will participate in the tournament, which play out on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and similarly to the structure of the SA Rugby Youth Weeks, the teams deemed to have played the best rugby throughout the tournament will meet in the final match of the tournament.
The Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week was established in 2013 and is a joint venture between SA Rugby and the SA Rugby Legends Association. The tournament offers players from rural, lower-league and non-traditional rugby schools an opportunity to participate in a high-level provincial competition with the objective of creating a pathway for them to advance through SA’s rugby structures.
