South Africa had the perfect start on day 1 of the Sa7s and look on track to becoming the first South African team to successfully defend their home title.
The Blitzbokke were too strong for their opponents racking up convincing wins over USA 26-0, Kenya 38 – 7 and Wales 36 – 0.
Powell was understandably pleased with the defensive effort as his men conceeded one try on the opening day.
Seaobela Senatla was on fire scoring 6 tries. He seemed to have an extra gear on his opponents showing real pace and skill.
“Seabelo is a special player and he makes things happen. However, it’s always a team effort and the players upfront do the hard yards so that our exciting runners can finish the job,” Neil Powell added.
Cecil Africa became the highest point scorer for Blitzbokke when he crossed the whitewash bringing his tally to 928. 3 more than Sevens legend Fabian Juries.
Werner Kok also impressed with a good all round performance.
Niel Powell managed his replacements well as he has all season. It has to be said that the reserves all add huge value to the team and contribute equally when they come onto the park.
The Blitzbokke are looking like a very balanced side, close to the complete package.
The defencing Champs will face England in the Cup Quarter Finals on Day 2. Kick-off: 12h19 CAT
