With the NC Weiler Primary School in Alexander as the venue, over one thousand children were treated to a visit by the Vodacom Bulls mascot Bulletjie and several Bulls players as they joined forces with the Vodacom volunteers as well as the Tiger Brands Foundation in a meal packing event in honour of the Nations birthday boy, Mr Mandela.

Players such as lock Wilhelm Steenkamp, future Bulls stars Chris Massyn, Carel Swart and Corniel Els, joined Bulletjie and assisted in packing and handing out more than 230 tons of food parcels – an effort which kicked off on 15 July,

“It was a real honour and a privilege to be part of this initiative. On behalf of the Blue Bulls Company, I would just like to say thank you to Vodacom and all those involved for making a difference in these young lives,” says veteran Steenkamp.

Plenty of fun was had by all with plenty of dancing and singing – most especially from Bulletjie. The players and mascot were once again 100% behind their cause which was evident when the injured Carel Swart took off his arm brace so he could work at a faster pace.

“This has been an incredible effort by all those involved and with healthy and filling ingredients such as beans, porridge, oats, samp and rice in each parcel, we can be well pleased with our efforts on this very special day of celebration,” commented Blue Bulls Company Marketing Manager Richard Papo
