Blue Bulls Tuks Rugby International coaching summit
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus and former All Black scrumhalf Justin Marshall will be the biggest attractions at the Blue Bulls and TuksRugby’s international Coaching Summit to be held on 3 and 4 October at the Hillcrest Sports Campus of the University of Pretoria.
This summit takes place a few days before the Springboks’ last test in the 2019 Rugby Championships – against the All Blacks at a packed Loftus Versfeld and with the Boks’ remarkable 36-34 win in Wellington still fresh in the mind.
The fact that New Zealand has long been the undisputed pacemakers in world rugby will make Marshall’s input on the “All Black approach” very insightful and interesting. The 45-year-old Marshall, nowadays a commentator for the Sky Sports TV channel, can talk with authority because he knows New Zealand test rugby inside out.
Amongst other things, Marshall holds the All Black record for most tests as scrumhalf (80), most consecutive tests as scrumhalf (23), most tries in the no 9 jersey (28), most Tri-Nations tests as scrumhalf (35), most tests against the Springboks (22) and most test victories over South Africa (16).
Fresh from the win on All Black soil, Erasmus’ contribution will also be very interesting. He will share the secret on how the Boks beat all the odds to pull off a most very memorable win after losing to Argentina and Australia.
Erasmus share will share his time-slot with three members of his coaching team: Matthew Proudfoot, Swys de Bruin and Jacques Nienaber. They should give valued feedback on the way forward for Springbok rugby, with particular emphasis on the 2019 World Cup blueprint.
The presence and participation of the Springboks’ coaching team and an icon like Marshall is not the only reason why local coaches should flock to the summit.
