Blues fan drives away with brand new Hyundai Accent
The 2013 Blues season might not quite have finished as strongly as many fans had hoped, but for one lucky member the final game of the year was certainly one to remember as he drove away with a brand new Hyundai Accent.
Jim Smith has been a Blues member since the advent of Super Rugby, so it was fitting this true blue fan was one of 7500 RugbyFirst or True Blues members this year randomly selected to win a fantastic new car thanks to our partners at Winger Hyundai, Greenlane.
At each of our home games in 2013 we picked out a member, and for the final game against the Chiefs on July 13 all eight winners came out onto the pitch with for their shot at unlocking a Hyundai Accent 1.6A4 Hatch.
Jim’s son Steve took the honours of heading down onto EdenPark during the half time break and just had that feeling it was going to be his lucky night.
“I’ve never had that feeling before and I didn’t say it to anybody because I thought they would think I was stupid but it was funny, I woke up that Saturday morning and I just thought we’ve got this,” Steve said.
“I ambled down there, jumped the fence onto the pitch and talked to the other contestants and was pretty laid back about the whole thing in all honesty but it was still a surprise all the same when the door opened. And it was even more of a surprise that it was the first car to open, it was certainly a fantastic feeling and we’re thrilled to have won it,” he said.
Dealer Principal at Winger Hyundai Grant Vincent said he was delighted to be able to give away a brand new car to such an ardent Blues supporter.
“Winger Hyundai have been a proud partner of the Blues since 2009 and it was great to be able to reward a local true blue fan with one of our vehicles. We’d run a campaign last year with the ability to win a car, but this season we actually wanted to give a car away to a season member so to see Jim drive off Eden Park in his Hyundai Accent was terrific.”
Jim and his father will certainly be back in the North Stand cheering on the Blues in 2014.
“I love JK as a coach, I think he’s definitely the right guy for the job and he seems to bring out the best in the players and with the young team he’s got we can only look forward to better things,” he said.
“We’re always true blue supporters and to me that’s what it is all about, even when the team is playing badly you’ve still got to turn up and back them no matter what.”
We’re very grateful to our friends at Winger Hyundai for making this prize possible and look forward to rolling out a similar initiative in 2014.
