Boishaai trounce Paul Roos
Paarl Boys High extended their winning streak to 32 games after beating Paul Roos Gimnasium 28-3 at the Markötter on Saturday.
The visitors got off to a scintillating start when inside centre, Hanri van Heerden, sliced through the Paul Roos defence inside of two minutes to dot down in the corner. Gianni Lombard was unable to convert.
Early exchanges went the way of the Paarl team, who enjoyed most of the possession, pinning the hosts in their own half.
Paul Roos Captain, Joshua Willemse, succeeded with a penalty to put the home side on the board after excellent lineout work which pressured Paarl Boys High into infringing at the breakdown.
The hosts dominated territory in the last 10 minutes of the first half but were unable to convert this into points despite poor discipline by the visitors who conceded numerous penalties.
Lombard succeeded with a penalty late in the first half to extend the lead to five points at the break.
Paarl Boys High were first to score after the restart through Winger, Urgene Johannes, who crashed over in the corner for an unconverted try.
Lombaad, who didn’t have a good day with the boot by his own standards, managed to slot a penalty extending their lead to 13 points with 15 minutes to play.
MJ Strauss was next to cross the whitewash. Some brilliant individual play by replacement flyhalf, Tiaan du Plessis, sent the burly front ranker in for Paarl Boys’ third try.
Francke Horne showed the Paul Roos defenders a clean pair of heels in the dying minutes of the game. The flanker took an excellent pass from man of the match, Michael Visser, to record an impressive victory away from home.
