Bok Women’s Sevens dominate opening day in Tunisia
The Springbok Women’s Sevens on Saturday took a massive leap forward in their quest to book their place in the Rugby World Cup Sevens next season as they cruised to three wins a row on the opening day of the Rugby Africa Sevens in Tunisia.
Coach Renfred Dazel’s team were sharp on attack throughout the day as they did well to convert their chances into points, and they backed this up with a solid defensive effort, which saw them concede only seven points in their first three matches.
Such was the quality of their performances, they kicked off the tournament with a convincing 43-0 victory against Morocco thanks to a dominant display on attack and defence, and they backed this up with a 17-7 win against hosts, Tunisia, in a tough encounter.
Dazel’s charges continued to stamp their authority in their final match of the day as they registered a 24-0 victory against Uganda to finish the opening day unbeaten.
Should the team win the tournament, which concludes on Sunday, they will not only defend their title, they will also secure their place in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Atlanta, USA, in July next year.
Springbok Women’s Sevens day one results at the Rugby Africa Sevens (Saturday, 16 September):
SA 43-0 Morocco
SA 17-7 Tunisia
SA 24-0 Uganda
