Boland A take top honours at Southern APC tournament
The Boland A team on Friday produced a solid performance in the Southern Amateur Provincial Championship final against neighbours Western Province in Velddrif to secure the title in front of their home crowd.
The victory for the Boland A team signalled the end of Province’s dominance in the competition, as they won the last three titles.
The hosts came out firing in the first half and built up an encouraging 25-8 lead, and they held their nerve in the second half despite a strong comeback by Western Province. Interestingly Province out-scored Boland four tries to three, but four penalties and two conversions by the Boland side handed them the edge on the scoreboard at the end.
Eastern Province, meanwhile, finished the tournament in third position with a memorable 62-26 victory against SWD as they ran in an impressive nine tries, while EP Rural won the Plate Final as they defeated the Boland XV 34-17.
In the other match Border Rural registered a 19-5 victory against their Border counterparts to finish the tournament in seventh position.
